Bringing our cinema going memories into focus - Cinema Heritage Project
What do you remember about going to the cinema when you were younger ?
Was it queuing for popcorn or ice creams during the interval ? Was it climbing to the very back row so you can get the best view ? Was it an event where all your family and friends looked forward to getting ready and going to on a Saturday night ? These are some of the questions volunteers will be asking each other in the coming months to start putting together a “patchwork quilt” of memories of cinema going, in Worcestershire over the last 100 years. Do you remember the first film you saw at the cinema? Mine was Sinbad and the Eye of the Tiger (1977). Apparently Ray Harryhausen has been criticised for his use of stop - motion model animation during this film, but to a 7 year old like me I loved it ( very scary though ). January 2012 is when months of hard work start to fall in to place. After various meetings with creative people in Worcestershire we are finally getting plans underway to bring this project to life. This project will not only bring generations together, it will be highlighting local film making talent across our creative and artistic county. We will be taking the work made by the younger and older volunteers on the road, visiting towns near you in Worcestershire. Showcasing work by local film makers and generally spreading the word about Worcestershire’s first film festival November 2012. Keep looking at our website for developments as things progress over the coming months.
